The Studio Window
Commissions
The 2 Big myths:

It's going to be expensive - Actually, it'll be very close to the price of buying a non commissioned work.
What if I don't like it? - This rarely happens because you will be part of the process so we will know this at an early stage and avoid that pitfall.

A Different Way of Commissioning
A commission is not simply the making of an artwork.

It is a period of attention.

At Buchanan Christie Studio, we open limited studio windows each year for our artists. We are creatives ourselves who work alongside these artists.
These windows are defined periods during which an artist can give the necessary time, focus, and care to make a work properly.

This reflects how seriously we take the process.

Slowly. Deliberately. With presence.
02
Why Commission?
We work alongside, as part of the artist's studio and you are central to that process.

Collectors who commission through The Studio Window receive more than an artwork.

They receive:
1. The work itself
2. The story of how it came into being
3. A record of its formation
4. Optional direct time with the artist

Who are the Studio Window artists for Spring 2026?
Ben Hughes
Susie Highfield
For each window there are 3 invited artists, all represented by reputable galleries.
They will be quite different to each other but they are 'ones to watch' at different stages of their careers.
Our next Studio Window is reserved for artists Paul Wright and Ben Hughes and Susie Highfield

How the Studio Window Works

We work with commission windows, not deadlines.
These are defined periods during which new commissions can begin, reflecting how many works can be made properly and with full attention.

Commission Windows in 2026

14 February – 14 March
1 October – 1 November
Each window opens for a limited number of commission starts for each artist.

Occasionally, due to high demand or specific circumstances, an additional summer window may be announced.

Outside the published windows, collectors are welcome to register interest or get in touch to discuss current studio diary availability.
How a Commission Unfolds
1. Initial Enquiry or Registration of Interest
Collectors register interest ahead of a window or enquire during an open period.

2. Confirmation of Availability
The studio advises on suitability, scale, timing, and next steps.

3. Deposit & Commitment
A deposit secures the artist’s time within the studio window.

4. Artist Conversation (Where Applicable)
A short video conversation may take place to align intention and expectations.

5. Making the Work
The work develops over an agreed period, according to the artist’s process.

6. Completion & Delivery
Final timelines, delivery, and framing (if required) are agreed individually.
